Amazon deals wih Sony rootkit issue
-
I got an email today from Amazon.com. Here's the text (emphasis mine): Hello from Amazon.com. We're writing about your order for the following CD(s): Nothing Is Sound The Sony CD(s) listed above contain XCP digital rights management (DRM) software. Due to security concerns raised about the use of CDs containing this software on PCs, Sony has recalled these CDs and has asked Amazon.com to remove all unsold CDs with XCP software from our store. Since you purchased this CD from Amazon.com, you may return it to us for a full refund regardless of whether the CD is opened or unopened. Just follow these steps: [SNIP/] I guess now Sony can add Amazon.com to the growing list of people and companies that are "less than impressed" with their DRM scheme. [EDIT]I haven't played the offending CD using a computer. This now makes it certain that I never will.[/EDIT] Charlie if(!curlies){ return; } -- modified at 12:37 Friday 18th November, 2005

That’s better customer service than you will ever get at Best Buy or any of the other electronic stores.

This seems like one of those programs that started small, grew incrementally, building internal pressure, and finally barfed all over its source code sneakers. Or something.
