In case you haven't seen this in the news section: Microsoft memo to staff: Clobber Linux In a Dec. 26 memo leaked this week to technology Web site theregister.uk.com, Microsoft Senior Vice President Brian Valentine urges his Windows sales force to "modify" traditional approaches and "dig deeper" to find out where companies are using Linux. Valentine assures his troops they will soon get "independent" studies and spreadsheet tools useful for obliterating "the perception that Linux is free." Microsoft will probably try to show that Linux is costly to maintain and service over the long term, experts say. "We're working hard to debunk myths around Linux," he writes. "We're approaching this in waves." What do you think? Will it work? // Fazlul

Well....sounds like typical marketing stuff.....nothing shocking, and nothing that I haven't seen in advertisements for RTOSes in magazines...."How much is your 'free' RTOS costing you?!?"

Nope. Linux has its uses, and as long as there are zealots, it will continue to be around. Jon Sagara What about :bob:?

I agree. IMHO, this is useless on part of MS, it'll only give Linux unwarranted exposure. // Fazlul

It reads to me like standard sales puke fare. It's the kind of memo you'd see in most sales offices when the sales pukes are meeting resistance from possible clients. Nothing to write home about, although it seemed to get the zealots on SlashDot a bit hot under the collar. Some things never change :-) Michael :-)

Which probably proves that most of these OS zealots are kiddies who haven't worked in the real world. All us old farts have seen that stuff before and realize what it is. I remember the big fuss over the halloween memos. I finally tracked them down and read them. Never did figure out what the fuss was about. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.
