Create a folder on the desktop and name it "notepad", open any webpage in IE and see its view source.... ------------------------------ Its not the fall that kills you; it's the sudden stop at the end.

Probably because ShellExecute("notepad xyz.html") or ShellExecute("open xyz.html") works that way. First trying to interpret it as a desktop folder and then searching the system path for an executable file with that name. Alternatively, copy an executable to the desktop and rename it to notepad.exe. Spooky! /me thinks of the fun games he can have with his workmate's PC's...

Sounds like a bug to me.  Either in IE, where it should be doing ShellExecute( "notepad**.exe** xyz.html" ) or where the shell (and/or ShellExecute(...)/ShellExecuteEx(...) should be noticing the un-embedded space and knowing that there is no reason to pass a parameter to a folder proper (to Explorer.exe telling it what to do with the folder, maybe, but not to the folder itself).    Peace! -=- James
