I wish to create a company intranet on my 2000 server. I have Microsofts DNS server installed and IIS version 6. How can i configure my server so that when any of my LAN clients type in http://intranet.home.net/ they will get to my locally based web site. I do not with to have intranet.home.net registered on the web it will be registered on the local DNS server. A step by step guide would be helpfull! .NET or not .NET? MFC is the question......

All that you should have to do is create new Web Site, via the IIS MMC snap-in; binding it to the IP that you give to the hostname, intranet.home.net IIS MMC -> Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Internet Services Manager Right click on the server name, choose new, website. A wizard will guide you through the rest of the process. You can select where the pages should be stored (we don't use inetpub for any of our sites, this stops script kiddies from defacing any sites should they "hack" you.)
