streamlined vs. full User Experience

So, it's either Tom or the do read the Lounge, huh? I don't see dead pixels anymore... Yes, even I am blogging now!

It still doesn't say a lot... but yeah, "streamlined" was such a marketing :wtf:
We say "get a life" to each other, disappointed or jokingly. What we forget, though, is that this is possibly the most destructive advice you can give to a geek.

I exchanged email with a guy at Microsoft yesterday about this very thing. Here's what I told him: I am of the opinion that the Standard Edition is targetted at the wrong group of people. All of the marketting hype claims it's an "entry-level" tool. Most of the people buying Standard are pros who don't need remote debugging or MySQL Server, but otherwise want the "full" interface. Why should we spend $500 more to get the "full" interface? There's no compelling reason. Maybe the MS marketting people for development tools should regularly visit http://www.CodeProject.com (over 2.5 million registered Windows programmers), and get a feel for what actual Windows developers *really* want in their dev tools. ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Why don't you tie a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

Wow! I am shocked! I thought it was against your religion to help MS improve their products.
No, it's against my religion to *use* their products because someone else thinks I should (especially if that someone is Microsoft). If I'm forced to use their dev tools to remain employable, then I think I have every right to give them my 2 cents worth when I see something that ain't right. And I'm like a bulldog - I don't let go anything real easy. ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'.
