I was wondering what the chances were of getting the donation amount to acheive supporter status lowered. I'm sure there are lots of devs here too poor to donate 240 US dollars but would donate less. maybe around 100 150 or so? I'm dying to donate but I can't swing that much money :( On a second note, could anyone describe the supporter only view feature of the forums, I'm dying to know what it looks like. Thanks, John

Thanks John, that's something that we have been talking about and I agree it makes sense. As it sits most people get supporter status for free when they buy a product through the CodeProject store, but you are right, we should make it more affordable for those who'd like to contribute but not buy a product necessarily at the same time. It's all slick and with dancing beauties, well worth the $240  Oh - and grab it while it lasts! (Chris said he has to remove it for "Server load reasons" or something - I think if a supporter sees a new girl, someone else gets an 500 error, or something like that)

What I'd like to see (having just become a supporter) I just gave the $240 and what's frustrating for me is that I have to remember to do this again (I don't want to be one just once. Not very useful to CP really.) I've asked Chris and made the suggestion of just being able to have $25 a month drafted from my account. That's so cheap to me. It's more than $240 in a year and every year I'd just keep doing it. This place might be lined with gold if it was only going to cust $25 a month to line it. Chris explained that my suggestion or something similar was in the works. If I had to guess, given what I've seen so far there are a pile of *good* things in the works here for all of us. I think Chris will get it all done in time. We just have to be patient I suppose. I'll say this though. Had I known then what I know now I would have done the $240 a while ago. No that's not bating, or enticement or anything else. It's my opinion and the opinions of other current supporters might differ so don't read anything into that. However if you are curious then I say go ahead and quench your curiousity and help the joint out. I also have to say the new duds (bob icon) is rather refreshing from the Prison-Bloke profile icon you get just being a regular chum. Don't harass me and don't 1 me for this post. Don't read anything more into it either. I'll summarize though. I'm very glad for what I did for WAY TOO MANY REASONS to list here as I just don't have the time to list them all. I'm too busy working on an article I want finished by Sunday. - Rex

Somwhere I read the benefits of supporter status was a really icon and a "special" forum view only available to supporters I guess I don't know for sure, but I could have sworn there was. Thanks, John

The monthly fee would be ok by me, however, how would it work, if you don't end up paying for a month or a couple or whatever, is your supporter status taken away and benefits that go along with it? I mean money was donated whether someone can "keep" on donating or not. That's one thing that does suck about changing the program though, all those that did shell out the 240 could now have gotten the same thing for cheaper. So I'm sure, the logistics would defintately have to be looked at hard and long and from many different angles. Thanks, John

Look in the dropdown at the top of the forum - last item in the list: "Expanded view (supporters only)"

I think the best benefit of the supported is that nice cozy feeling of supporting the site you like and use. Now only if I had those 240$... -------------------------------- Human stupidity is infinite.

No I actually think when/if CP ever launched something like that you could have a few choices for what/how it was done. But that's probably why maybe the one time $240 is just easier. If everyone wants it their own way then maybe the $240 is just the best approach. It is certainly simpler and much easier to manage...

Yeah... I added a similar feature to my CPhog script, just to see how it worked out, and haven't used it since. The only time i can think of where it'd be nice would be when viewing a forum for the first time in a while, when you want to scan all new messages quickly for something of interest. And the new(er) Topic View does a better job...
