So one of my resolutions for this year is to manage my finances better. So I went on Ebay and made an order for Microsoft Money 2005. I didn't care if it was used, and the price was attractive. Then I got a post on Friday and behold it was my EBay order. Problem is, it was a CD-R copy of the installation disc! I was expecting the original disc, and possibly the original packaging as well.
After virus checking the disc, I installed it and it looks like a kocha copy, but my concience is telling me I should send this back and demand an original copy. But I can't be bothered with the hassle. I went to ebay in the first place because of the convenience (of delivery and cost).
For all the EBay flusies out there, is this normal? It is expected to turn a blind eye to this sort of stuff for the money you pay?

This is a blatant violation of EBay's policies and is also a flagrant copyright violation (i.e. illegal). If I were you, I would inform EBay, return the disc, and demand my money back. /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Music | Articles | Freeware | Trips ravib(at)ravib(dot)com

I am extremely cautious about buying on ebay. I have mostly bought physical items (not software) that would be more difficult to cheat without just out and out fraudulently never shipping the product. I have had some "scares" with the latter, but things eventually straightened themselves out. But what happened to you is not the intention of ebay, and as mentioned is a blatant violation of hte rules. You should at least make the attempt to get your money back and return the disk. If it doesn't work out, you can always get my copy of 2005, I just bought money 2006. And before everyone screams, no it is not an upgrade copy. Personally I would: 1) Notify eBay about this seller immediately so they can take action. 2) Notify the seller that you are disastisfied and want your money back. Be VERY frank and open about why. 3) Notify Microsoft about the seller.

Your kidding me, right? I would have thought the fact it was on CD-R would have told you it was illegal. My: Blog | Photos "Man who stand on hill with mouth open will wait long time for roast duck to drop in." -- Confucius

I've bought much hardware and s/w off ebay - maybe I'm lucky (doubtful), but I would say this is an aberation. Ebay has pretty strong rules on this stuff, and they collaborate with MS. Usually, the gray zone is the OEM s/w - usually comes with a broken motherboard :) C. Gilley Will program for food... My son's PDA is an M249 SAW.

In addition to everyone else's comments, make sure to leave negative feedback stating that the seller is dealing in illegal items. Feedback is the best way to get back at sellers. Jared Parsons jaredp@beanseed.org http://jaredparsons.blogspot.com/[^]
