how to do authentication and authorisation using login form

hi, i have devlop an windows application in vb.net i want to do authorisation and authentication in software using login form. i need login_name authentication on main forms menu as well as on others forms. For examples...Menu Item should be disable when the user name is USER, else should be enable. how to get login name from loginform to MAIN FORM & OTHER CHILD FORM. should you serach for username and passowrd in table if itexists or not (database) or u set manualy username and passowrd???

i have to search username and password in database primarily and have to authenticate in mainform that who is logged in. On Client computer i have to maintain current user information for form's authentication. hi this ajay bharti
