Sorry if this is a repost (or everyone is tired of hearing about this)... How many people are sickened by such a simple idea making so much money? http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/[^] More power to the guy that thought this up and got people to pay him $1 per pixel in 100 pixel blocks. He ended up making over a million dollars in about 6 months...

So good! I saw this one over a month ago and was very impressed that such a simple idea made it so big. I would love to see the history of *why* it was so successful. How did he promote this page? Was it self promoting? Was it just good timing? It certainly ranks high up on the why-didn't-someone-do-this-years-ago scale. Or did someone already try it with no luck? A quick search will show that some people are trying to do the billion dollar home page now ;)

One of the best things about it is that he kept a blog of what was going on from the beginning. You can track it from the begining. It was all through word of mouth which turned into interviews with the news.

I don't know, not me. It just reconfirms that money is no actual measurement of value.

No. Why would I be sickened? No one forced any of these companies to hand over money for the pixels. That's my point... I guess the lesson is to never under value any idea you have.

Just by the simplicity of the idea. Why didn't I do that first. This guy is basically the first internet beggar. He must feel like the guy that first held his hand out for a donation on a road or in front of a shop. And I feel like the people today that try it and get nothing.

No. This was a commercial venture. Companies paid to put their logo on his site. A beggar would have just received the money and given no such service in return. If you are looking for an example of a real internet beggar then how about here: Save Karyn - Internet beggar[^] ColinMackay.net "Man who stand on hill with mouth open will wait long time for roast duck to drop in." -- Confucius "If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him, for an investment in knowledge pays the best interest." -- Joseph E. I kind of wonder if maybe the first few hundred thousand of ads were fake just to draw interest to the site so that the press would hope on it and give all that free promotion to sell all the rest. I am a bit of a skeptic about most things ;) There is no doubt though, I would love to have his ability to sell. Anyone selling of this nature could sell anything to anyone. Cannot tell you the times I actually had products or services that were worth something, only to fail to sell them. There is some secret to selling :) Rocky <>< Latest Post: SQL2005 Server Managemnet Studio timeouts! Blog: www.RockyMoore.com/TheCoder/[^]
