    Since both Chris and John have found love through a web-browser, see below, and I have had my fair share thanks to TCP/IP I thought I'd ask who else has? What sites did you make use of and which ones were a rip off? regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

      i found my better half on-line. don't have time/ don't like the bar scene anymore. i used lavalife.ca, dates.ca lavalife is a bit more expensive as you have the pay-per msg format, so if your chatting it up with a few people, your credits will be used up quickly.

        I met my wife 7 years ago through (don't smirk) Love@AOL. I don't know if it still exists and I dropped AOL not too long afterwards, but my wife's a keeper. Been married 3 1/2 years and have two beautiful daughters. Charlie if(!curlies){ return; }

          Good: matchmaker.com match.com date.com eharmony.com AmericanSingles.com Bad: PlatinumRomance.com iwantanewgirlfriend.com (plus many more I have forgotten) [EDIT] A lot of these sites give you some free time at least to check them out. If the web site design sucks, usually its content does too... [/EDIT] I was on for about 4 months, signed up to 12 sites, paid for only 4 or 5 single month memberships, and went out and dated 3 women out of about 20 that I had a serious conversation with. And if this matters most of the time I was talking with 4 or 5 of these women on a daily bases, this after not having a date in years... John -- modified at 18:22 Monday 23rd January, 2006

            My wife and I met on SocialNet.Com back in October 2000, which I think was absorbed by Match.Com We were married September 2001. We now have a 4 month old daugher. Yahoo personals generated a few dates, but there was always so much fake placements to wade through. I suggest somethihng you have to pay a little bit for. It kind of keeps the unrealistic placements by teeneage pranksters to a minimum. Local churches were not much help - too close knit a group, perhaps just as well. Great Expectations was considered, but when I asked what it would cost, and they asked me how much I make, I just left. There is a semi-recently divorced guy at work who is trying to do the "Chinese bride via the internet" thing. He's travelled to China a few times already and one "lucky" lady even got an entrance interview with the US State Department. She failed due to poor English skills. He's got another "on the line" now and is heading to China at the end of January to meet her in person. This guy is a twit (for reasons I'll not go into here) but it's fun to watch the process he's going through. P.S. I met my wife the old-fashioned way (in person) 22 years ago. Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.

                        I do have some more advice in this subject. Spend several hours defining your profile. Spend the time to explain who you are and exactly what you are looking for. I can remember soo many times I passed up on a person because they obviously only spent 5 minutes prepairing the answers to the questions... Then revise this document as you communicate with people. I revised my profile around 10 times in the 4 months I had one. Posting a photo to your profile is not necissary but you must have a good one that you can email as after the first day of discussion photos are usually exchanged. I actually did both, some sites I posted my photo some I did not. I did not on matchmaker. BTW, matchmaker was the site I met all three women that I went out with and I did have a profile on this site for all 4 months. John

                              I met my wife a little over 22 year ago through her mother. Mom said, I have a beautiful daughter I want you to meet. I thought, yeah, sure, I've heard that one before. She was telling the truth.

                                (Okay, you left yourself open for this one.) So, you're saying the only women who'd go out with you were those who didn't see a photo first? :)

                                      Somehow that doesn't quite fit my understanding of "meeting" someone. I still associate that with a face-to-face encounter...first contact, maybe, but "meeting" just doesn't seem to fit. :-D Absolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power Eric Hoffer All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. I know of 2 people that met their spouses through an online dating service, another person who is currently in a serious relationship with an online match, and 2 others who have been on numerous dates over the past year with people from match.com. BW

Let me try to understand this. He dropped LL1 [lucky lady #1] because she did not have the requisite language skills to get a visa? He obviously loved her very much! Now LL2 is "on the line" and he is heading to the other side of the planet to meet her in person. Will he visit LL1 also? It sounds like a telephone interview - to assess her English language skills - is the order of the day. To call this guy a twit is being kind. No further explanation is necessary. From the sounds of it he deserves to be taken for a ride on the dark side. I would not be surprised if he ends up with a LL that is on a 5 year plan [stick it out with him until she gets certified as a resident alien [sounds so sci-fi], commonly known as a green card. Then the plan will switch to filing a complaint with the local magistrate citing abuse [physical or mental - depending on individual circumstances] and requesting a restraining order [which will probably be granted]. Then he can continue to support her [let us not forget the affidavit he signed with the immigration folks promising to be responsible for all her expenses while she is in the US] and continue to make mortgage payments but can not come back to the house. At which time LL’s boyfriend moves in for her protection [there is always a BF in the wings] and they [LL and BF] live happily ever after. Or some other such story line that results in Mr. Twit paying for her and not having for her to be inconvenienced with servicing his desires, cooking for him or doing his laundry. I'm on-line, thefore I am. JimmyRopes
