Old Books

Does anyone know of a place where I could be donating/selling old books ... I've already tried Amazon.com and they don't sell too fast out there ... I am moving and hate to keep travelling with boxes of books that I don't use anymore ... plus they get outdated fast anyways.

Well, you can never loose by give them to schools libraries, shelters, ... or try at some used book stores around your area ( most of the time it will just "move" the problem somewhere else ).

Goodwill will take the books and it's tax deductible.

If they're books that might have any kind of collectors value, try abebooks[^] - My Fiance's Mother uses them a lot to sell books from her bookshop, -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit! Buzzwords!

You could always try a chain like Half Price Books. They make you ridiculously low offers but it is money. Brett A. Whittington Application Developer

Your local library would love to get them.

What kind of books? When I was attending college, there were always free (outdated, but still usefull) books that professors and former students would leave in the computer science building for the students to take. I received a good number of books this way that I otherwise would probably have never read. You would think, but not always. My brother, a librarian, occassionally has the unfortunate task of weeding through all the 'great books' that get donated. Most of them get recycled. Libraries cull and recycle books regularly. If the books aren't borrowed periodically and they don't represent a needed portion of the overall knowledgebase then they get chucked. I know he does watch for rarities that pop up every now and then. Last I talked to him about it, he was seeing if they could set up some way to sell the rare ones to generate funds for the library. Cheers, Drew.
