There are actually quite a few. Browse over to your favorite graphics chip producer and then use the where-to-buy option to find who makes laptops with the highest end chips. http://www.nvidia.com/object/wtb_notebooks.html#sevenSeries[^] we also almost bought one of these: http://www.widowpc.com/2005/06/gaming_laptops.php[^] but my project leader decided to go with what we know, Alienware. Good luck! _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. (Japanese Proverb)

If you are looking for a powerful machine with an excellent good warranty, checkout the Dell XPS Desktop Replacements (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/xpsnb?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs[^]). I have a 1st gen one and it is amazing. When I ordered mine I even got a free upgrade to the 4 year complete next day warranty and accidental damage protection :) The XPS Notebook I have was rated 10/10 by Maximum PC and it even beat several of their best desktops (at the time) on performance tests.
Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.

Nope, but I take care not to. When the company didn't buy a laptop tray, I did since I was the prime user of the first one. My current one is in for repair, not sure what happened, its twin is still running fine and even was used on a VIP demo today. The other new one had a drive controller fail at about 4 weeks. The original laptop has been in use for 18 months regularly without problems. The newer generation is six weeks and running for the one, obviously the other one is at AW right now, hopefully to return soon. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Looks like parallel ports are going the way of the serial port. Sigh. Marc Pensieve

Which one did you happen to get? I've been thinking I might need one recently. It's been getting hotter recently while I've been playing games or doing some really heavy data crunching.

Ooh, that's not easy, which is odd since I use laptops exclusively. I've got a Dell Inspiron 8200 that's been a flawless workhorse since I got it. I really love the Toshiba I'm using for my main development--17" wide screen, Hyperthreading, so forth. The LCD video driver crapped out though a while ago and it took about 3 weeks to repair, because even though I told them "it's the chip" the techs followed their dumb scripts and decided to replace the LCD. Week 1. Which of course came with the wrong mating connector, so they had to send it back and get a different one. Week 2. Come to discover the LCD was still out. Guess what! It's the driver chip, like I told them! Week 3. Sigh. My only personal preference is, my next machine will have either hyperthreading or dual core and 2G of RAM. I don't do gaming, so a high end video card isn't totally necessary, unless I'm going to be loading Vista, hahaha. One thing someone pointed out is, beware of the factory hard drive. I have a 5400 RPM drive that came with the laptop and ordered a second 7200RPM drive. Major difference in application performance! So get a fast hard drive. Does that help? :) Marc Pensieve

The laptop seemed to have enough fan strength if given a little extra room, so currently we have this: http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=PA243U[^] if you are worried about if the existing cooling is enough, then get a cooling pad with a fan or two (or three) underneath the laptop. http://www.hardwarecooling.com/product_info.php/cat/33/prod/534/Pacific_Breeze_II_Notebook_Cooler[^] I don't have one of the latter, but I knew a few people that swear by them (not at them). _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Yes..thanks The video card is no big deal from where I stand either.. This machine is for my wife. She does Paranormal Investigation...yes ghosts.. The only thing I care about is the machines ability to process large audio files fast. I know that this has a lot to do with the software that you are using and we use Adobe Auditions for the processing. I guess my big things would be: ram, hdd speed and processor thanks again to everyone that has offered an opinion about this. Will I hate users. yes...some very interesting stuff has happened. If you want to talk about it some time I would be more then happy to. Do you know anything about EVP(Electronic Voice Phenomena)? Basically it is the recording of "Disembodied" voices A.K.A. Spirits. She has been studying them for some time and has it down to a pretty good science. Like I said if you are interested we can talk more about this later. Will I hate users. Not all of them, just the ones who talk.CP member: Al Einstien
