Just put another gig of ram in my home machine, up to 2G now, it can take 4G, just booting it up was quicker (well it seemed quicker) .... down side was that 2*512M sticks cost nearly 200 euros :wtf:(192 to be precise) hence not buying 4*1G sticks ... maybe later in the year :~ So just out of curiousity, whats the average price of ram where ye are from? (by the way I'm in good auld Eire) /I/

You can get a 1GB stick for about $60 or so, so says Pricewatch[^]

$'s, the thing about Ireland is that you can price something from the States and quadruple it, then you'll have the home price. Why? call us an island nation and the cost of shipping etc... nah, nothing to do with that, we're just getting ripped off, don't get me started in car prices..... As to why I just don't order it from the States, the shipping fee's can be enormous, than and your talking about a month to get the stuff.... /I/

It sounds like you got ripped off... where did you buy them? (Although I am assuming you are getting 533 Mhz DDR 2 mem) I'm in Ireland too and when it comes to getting memory here the only place to go to is: http://www.pc-memory-upgrade.co.uk/[^] It's an Irish company based in Kildare, AFAIK. Delivery is free in Ireland and their prices are excellent. For example: 1Gb DDR2-533 PC2-4200 DIMM ---> €70 2Gb DDR2 PC-4200 OCZ Value Series Dual Channel kit ----> €194 You shoudl check them out. Ah, sure. Having never lived outside the United States, that's never occurred to me that shipping would be so extraordinarily high.

Ah, that effect will diminish as the RAM gets fragmented, infected with viruses, cookies, and spyware, and the operating system slowly degrades the transistor response time so your CPU will need more read/write wait clock cycles. ;P Marc Pensieve

Uncle Erich ?? that one's lost on me :-O 4 slots, I was going to do that but I'm going to be upgrading later on in the year, that and a new graphics card. So then I'm going to get the 4*1g sticks and the 4 512M stick are being split between the parents & brother (for a small handling fee of course :)).

Where did you get it from? I buy memory from Crucial and it's a good bit cheaper than that (I suspect) The last time I bought any was last December (an extra 512MB for my iBook) and it cost £34 (about 50€).
