Outlook rules

Has anybody else noticed that if you set up a rule in Outlook 2003 to move incoming messages to another folder, it doesn't pop up the little box in the bottom right corner of the screen to tell you you've got mail? I quite like that feature, and would like it back if I could. I've set up lots of filters to help sort my mail for me automatically (none of them mark the message as read), and I often go for a whole day thinking I've got no mail :-O <edit>Just realised what I put as a title - I assure you there was no pun intended </edit>

I don't think that this is something that you can change from what I see. Under Tools --> Options --> Email Options --> Advancded E-mail Options -- "Display a New Mail Desktop Alert(default Inbox only)" is the only option. I am using Outlook 2003. I hope this helps but of course you can search MS Knowledge Base just in case there is something there. Thanks, TS www.pcknowledgevault.com

Add "Display Desktop Alert" (not display in New Alert Window) as an additional action in the rule.

Gosh. I just read the title and thought, "An Outlook fanboy! Die!" ;P (I just had too much bad experience writing code for Outlook). Can't you use the 'display a specific message in the New Item Alert window' in addition to the other rule? Edbert Sydney, Australia

You should try using ClearContext http://www.clearcontext.com[^]. It's an add-in for Outlook that's just knackers for useability. I love the product. It's kind of a manual rule tool for messages you still want rules applied to be want to process manually. You can also apply automated rules that move messages immediately as well. I use my inbox as a working queue. Sometimes messages in my inbox require action and sometimes I just am not ready (for whatever reason) to reply. Then there's a wad of messages I get that I just want to browse later and have not urgency what-so-ever I let CC auto-assign and move them. CC is kind of cool because it applies topics to your messages that you can group by and do all sorts of powerful stuff with. It's got a free trial (I highly recommend.) and the license is very inexpensive. It requires a small change in how you think about email but once you get used to it you'll wonder how you ever managed email without it. It's a cool product for sure. I don't make a dime off it either. I don't need to. It's a cool product that people should know about. I'm currently using the beta and I love it. It raises a few non-critical errors every now and then but otherwise does not affect Outlook at all and well it's a beta but the new stuff I really like and use a lot so there you go. - Rex

OK I have it! You can go to Rules and Alerts --> Change Rule and choose "Display in the New Item Alert Window" option. Thanks. I actually learned something from this post too. TS www.pcknowledgevault.com

Rule that is. ;P Chris Meech I am Canadian. [heard in a local bar] When I want privacy, I'll close the bathroom door.
