Intel's secret weapon.

There is a rumor that Intel is making a backup 64bit chip that is designed to take over if it's Itanium flops. story is here The chip supposedly is imitating AMD's upcomming Hammer line. Currently I'm a big AMD fan, how about you guys? When you buy a computer do you choose AMD over Intel? I  Microsoft and :bob:

Me too, been happy with my AMD CPU's since my first K6. Simon "Does the room have a CView?" Sonork ID 100.10024

Here Intel has somewhat of a monopoly over processors. Only bad people with big rain coats who hang around dark allies sell AMD's here. And sometimes they are out of stock but still open their coats just to flash folks. Personally, among all the billion computers I've seen so far, only 2 didn't have Intel Inside. The first had AMD and the other was a Commodor 64 ;P Isaac Sasson, Small time programmer - complainer at large.

Intel because they are faster and your mobo choices for AMD are poor. VIA chipsets are terrible.

After the problems I've had with this one? (chipset, heat, cpu dies) You can bet this is my last time with AMD! Intel may cost more, but I've got two Pentium Pro systems I bought brand new years ago that I've never had to jerk around with once. Can't say that for my 6 month old AMD system. I always choose Intel. There's way too many problems with the chipsets for AMD... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"
Indeed. AMD processors themselves aren't too bad, but the chipsets that support them tend to be a little worse than their intel counterparts, and the drivers tend to be VERY unstable. They're constantly changing them, while Intel drivers tend to stay pretty stationary. Also, Intel chips have thermal regulators, while AMD chips don't. It does have a thermal diode which can allow a chipset to throttle the chip back and reduce heat, but almost no motherboards use the feature. -- Where are we going? And why am I in this handbasket?
