    You know what George? I wish you'd posted this an hour or so ago :( Just installed the patch on one of the servers and after everything was done (and after waiting a few minutes) did a restart. The machine died and it'll be a few hours before someone can come in and fix things up on that server. :mad: cheers, Chris Maunder

    Odd, I installed it, and have not experienced any problems. Yet... :-D

          I was giving Nick Hodapp (MS VC++ PM) a hard time the other day and he threatened to insert

          #ifdef CHRIS_MAUNDER
          random_crash(SEVERITY_TERMINAL);
          #endif

          ito their code. And I thought he was joking :rolleyes: cheers, Chris Maunder

                      "Security Rollup Package". Love it! Microsoft have released a new patch - er, update, er, service pack, no, I mean security rollup package for W2K that covers all known security issues since SP2. Get it while it's hot. I assume the usual suspects will point and laugh if this is already common knowledge. cheers, Chris Maunder

                      Everyone has figured out what 'service pack' really means, so they had to go and change the language. Perhaps this is what Bill was talking about in the 'security is top priority' letter. "The world has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants." - Omar Bradley

                          I've known about the random_crash() function, having found it in use in many products, especially popular GUI OSs. Thanks for sharing the correct syntax, Chris:-D I've found a reliable way to prevent all user-induced errors! It executes from the Run= key in the Registry, and immediately restarts the PC!
