Hi folks, I need a laptop! I'm starting my own gig pretty soon (www.edovia.com). It's mostly web design and some software. While I'm sure I'd be served better with a desktop (cheaper, more powerful, etc.) a laptop would be nice when meeting clients or go work at a Café downtown when I'm feeling like changing of environment. I have a somewhat limited budget, (2200$ CDN, 1350$ USD) so right now I'm feeling like getting a Dell Inspiron. This is what I am looking for: 15.1" screen, 256mb, DVD, modem, network 10/100... The thing I don't like about Dell is that you can't see the product before buying (it's online). Any advice or suggestions? Thanks! --------------- http://www.edovia.com

As others have mentioned, the inspiron's are nice computers. I have an Inspiron 8000 and it's great. PIII-800, ATI Mobility M4, 1600x1200 UXGA display, DVD, etc... I bought mine refurbished from dell's website and saved a bundle. I think I got it for $1600 US. You can probably get a lot more computer if you go refurbished, and there's nothing wrong with them, with a great warranty. Here's what I suggest though. Max out your systems with the items that cannot be upgrade or upgraded easily. Get the largest display and fastest processor you can, even if it has very little everything else. You can always upgrade the memory and hard disk later. (Don't buy Dell memory either, it's way too expensive.. I bought 512MB of SODIMM's for $80 for my Inspiron). Also, don't completely trust their grid for selecting inventory. Check the actual product description for the service tag, which you'll occasionally find to be slightly different. -- Where are we going? And why am I in this handbasket?
