A fellow CP member has developed a product that I really am hooked on. S Douglas[^] first alerted me to the product (so credit goes to him, no plagiarism here folks :-D ). Anyway it's called SurfULater and it rocks. You can save any page on the net locally to your PC in an organized way. You can create topics of organization and store pages in those topics. SurfULater integrates into IE or Firefox so all you do is right-click a page and select the save method to use. You can just save the link or you can save the link and the page (WICKED!!!). I get nothing at all for making this post I bought my license to it a while ago and have no regrets and I wouldn't ask for a free license nor would I take one. So this is just an attention getter for other CP members who might need such a tool. I really find it useful. The fact it's domestic to CP makes it really cool. I tried linking it to Neville Franks profile but the search is taking FOREVER AGAIN. So Neville Franks is the author and it's a great product. I'd recommend reading his blog to. http://blog.surfulater.com[^] http://www.surfulater.com/[^] - Rex

I second that! It's indispensible to me! I'm working on a companion toolbar for Firefox that will add additional convenience to adding articles via Firefox. I don't know if I'll ever have a chance to finish it though.

Thanks for the kudos guys. It is especially welcome to have fellow CPian's singing the praises of Surfulater. I've got a lot more great stuff on the drawing board and am really looking forward to seeing everything unfold. Stay tuned. Thanks again, I really appreciate your support. PS. It is indispensible to me too.:-D Neville Franks, Author of Surfulater www.surfulater.com "Save what you Surf" and ED for Windows www.getsoft.com

Thanks Rex but the hats off really deserves to go to Neville, Surfulater is really a cool app. I had thought of boasting about it here in the lounge, but never did :-O , at least you did.

How is it different or better from the free FF extension ScrapBook that does practically the same?

[disclaimer] I have never used Scrapbook, here is what I know of Surfulater. [/disclaimer] Its not just for online content, its more of a personal knowledge base. The UI is fairly slick, the FF and IE add ins just make it eaiser to add content. The real power is in the App it self. There are screen shots and a movie deminstrating how it works. Might be worth checking it out.

Hi Igor, A few key differences. Surfulater: - Works with IE and Firefox. - Capture content from other applications as well as the web. - Edit all content using a HTML editor. - Cross Reference content with 'See Also' links to build a Web of related information. - Fast full text boolen search. - Stores everything in just two files so you can carry your database around. - Uses XML for main store. - Fast. - Works as a PIM using a variety of templates or add your own. - Attach any files to the database. eg. Zip, PDF, Word DOC's etc. - Store an article in as many folders as you want. - Work with as many knowledge bases as you want. - .... See: http://www.surfulater.com/compareus.html[^]for more. There are comments from ex. Scrapbook users on my forums saying it just got too slow and hard to use with lots of content. HTH.
