Hello all, This there any method to assess existing IT system ? from the technology, architecture, database and also hardware. I've been googling for 2 hours and found no clue at all. "Courage choose who will follow, Fate choose who will lead" - Lord Gunner, Septerra Core "Press any key to continue, where's the ANY key ?" - Homer Simpsons Drinking gives me amazing powers of insight. I can solve all the worlds problems when drunk, but can never remember the solutions in the morning. - Michael P Butler to Paul Watson on 12/08/03

Well thanks for the respond. Lemme tell you the story in detail. Now i'm maintaning Human Resources Information System ( from the web pages, server, database and sometimes programming). My boss ask me to assess/evaluate current system and make recommendation based on result of assessment/evalution. What i'm asking is there any standard method in IT when we assess/evaluate current system ? I want to evaluate from technical perspective and bussiness process perspective. Just off the top of my head, start documenting everything you have from an IT stand point such as hardware, software, etc. Report your findings to the boss such as strong points and weak points (with possible cost effective solutions). Hope this is a start because doing an IT assessment is pretty open-ended and varies from company to company. With my client, for example, I looked into their hardware inventory, software, their IT needs, what they don't have that can meet those needs, report to them, and let them make their business decision. If you are new to this post this is going to be a tough question.... What the boss want to know is if everyting run smoothy and efficiently wit as little human intervention and maintenance cost as possible or if there are thing which could be improved. At what cost, with which tool and what benefit?
