When hardware is better than software

My DVD navigation in Honda is gone. Kaput. Alas. No more. "DVD disk is reading an error". But the card still has warranty. So I take contact with Honda. "It can be a DVD disk. Then we need to order a new plate. Takes long time. Not earlier than mid-summer." "What?!! Takes 4 months to make a copy of a disk?" "Well, it's a special disk. And we can't make a copy ourselves. It's protected. Copyright. It's several customers who had problems with disks. They have been waiting. Takes time". This is a plain absurd. But I am getting worried. What if this is _not_ a plate? What if this is a reader? I ask them to check. They send me to a sales department where I borrow a new disk. Nope! Does not work. So it's not a DVD plate. It must be a reader. I go back to a workshop. A worker looks relieved. "Oh, if this is not a plate, then I can get you a new navigation device quickly. Max 3 weeks."
