Ran 2h 20min!

I don't know the distance, I just got out to run on the street only for fun without measuring anything, probably something like 12Km (8 miles). I just stopped here and there because of a red sign or to help an old lady to cross the street. Not a world record, but for someone who had been a couch potato for the past 15 years, and started running in January, this is quite a mark. I feel good :-D I don't see dead pixels anymore... Yes, even I am blogging now!

Good for you! If you can do 12 k by now, you should sign up for a half marathon in the summer or fall. Running is great:)

Congratulations, Daniel! :rose: I would be willing to bet you went farther than 8 miles. For example, if you have a pace of 12:00 minutes per mile (a slow jog or a fast walk), that's still over 11 miles total for 140 minutes. Like someone else suggested, you might think about doing a half-marathon. I'm doing this one[^] tomorrow. The start is a half-mile from my house, and the route goes down my street, so it should be fun. I am a bit jealous of you, however ;P. When I started running 13 years ago, I spent my first couple of years with one kind of overuse injury or another. Going from couch potato to this kind of distance since January is amazing. You must have fantastic biomechanics (e.g. good stride, footstrike, etc.) Keep it up! :-D

On the treadmill, it's this is the pace I train at. You're right, probably I ran more than 8 miles, but since I didn't measure it, I just guessed...

I'm considering something like that, in São Paulo, there's a famous street competition, São Silvestre[^] in Dec, 31. Only 2 miles from my house. I'll only do it if I'm in good shape, because the route goes up and down all over, and it occurs in the hottest days, over 30ºC. While I can't do it, I intend to run shorter courses, like 5Km or 10Km.

Ouch. I'm reading (and doing) everything I can about injury prevention and I'm seeing a sports doctor to check if I'm doing things right... I don't see dead pixels anymore... Yes, even I am blogging now!

...and I was glad tonight because I've decided to take the flight of stairs instead of the lift in our flat (did that this evening for the first time in a while)... Only 5 stories up ;P Paul

Stretching before and after a run helps me a lot. Stretching before seems to help me at least check how everything feels before I start. My overpronation tends to tighten my calf muscles, so I stretch those after quite a bit. I'm trying to stretch my hamstrings more as well to take some of the load off my back.

Looks like fun. I ran a 17K last fall like that. The midpoint of the race included a hill with a 30% grade that went for a couple hundred meters. You struggled up this hill, grabbed a cup of water at the water stop, and then turned around and went right back down. I think the trip down the hill was harder. By the time I got to the bottom, my quads were killing me.

That's a good idea. When I was having my problems, I went to a sports medicine center to get my first pair of orthotics (shoe inserts). Currently I've got a podiatrist who is a medium distance runner (10K's).

Good God that's amazing! I've been running again after a similar hiatus, and I have to struggle to finish 5Km non-stop, forget over 2 hours. Well Done Daniel! :-D I've been running for a year or so, and I cover 12km non-stop in about 55min (fastest time is 53:24), but I can remember when I first started I couldn't run more than a few hundred metres without stopping :~ It's a great feeling, isn't it? :)

Excellent, well done Daniel. I can't run to save my life. Cycling is more my game, every morning to work and back in the afternoon. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!
eh, stop bugging me about it, give it a couple of days, see what happens.
