Gmail and POP3

My personal email is managed by my web host's webmail program (SmarterMail, I think). I access this from home and from work using Thunderbird (mozilla.org[^]). At work, my Thunderbird setup for that account has the 'Leave messages on server' checkbox checked. At home, that box is unchecked. I make sure to not run Thunderbird at home when I'm not there. At work, I can read all incoming mail without problems. When I get home, I fire it up, and it downloads everything and removes it from the server. It seems as though Thunderbird properly honors the 'Leave messages on server' setting, so I'd be willing to bet that if you used two instances of Thunderbird to read your POP mail from both locations with that setting, you'd get what you're looking for. YMMV though...

I have tried to go online from work and deleted the file and it still tries to download that file. It must get stuck in a queue somewhere. Well it's still a beta. I think they'll fix these issues. Do you know where I can post some feedback regarding Gmail? There usually are places like that for beta products. Coding standard especially used for .NET. Variable names are composed of joined names first one starting with lowercase following capitalized. camelCaseLooksLikeThis. That's an email client problem, not a server problem. Some clients (I know Eudora does this, I don't know about others) can be set to check the ID for each message (using the UIDL POP command) and keep track of which IDs it's downloaded, and ignore the "has been read" flag on each mail. If your client does this, then you can use it in two locations and get the result you want.

If your client does this, then you can use it in two locations and get the result you want.

Not sure, as I said I only know Eudora. *shrug* Gmail's POP might not support UIDL, if that's the case then you're SOL

Of course not, the POP3 server has marked that message as delivered so will no deliver it again. If it didn't you would constantly keep recieving the same messages time and time again. The solution to this long known problem was IMAP and Exchange style mail servers
That is not the observed behaviour of my home/work email setup. I never receive messages twice at home (where I "peek"), nor do I miss any messages at work (where I "pop").
