We've just had an 73 year old Australian gentleman elected Minister in the Italian Government elections yesterday. I've just finished listening to him being interviewed on the radio and when asked about whether his age could be a problem he replied: "I don't look at my birth certificate to see how old I am, I look in my heart and my mind". Cool guy. He has a lot of flying ahead of him though. Neville Franks, Author of Surfulater www.surfulater.com "Save what you Surf" and ED for Windows www.getsoft.com

Is he the guy that has posters all over Leichardt in Sydney? I dont understand why an Australian (even if he has dual nationality) should be running for the Italian parlament. I guess thats more of a Soap box question. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear

The story I heard was it was setup by Berlusconi's guys to allow Italian ex-pats to vote, with the understanding they would be more likely to vote for him than the other candidates, thus giving him an edge. I know - let's keep the lounge political free - but the whole Italian election thing for me has been hugely entertaining :D cheers, Chris Maunder

Maybe because I was dumfounded at the dithering in the Canadian parliament and am so bored / jaded / depressed with politics in Australia. Italian politics are very colourful :) cheers, Chris Maunder
