So I'm desparate to satisfy my sci fi appetite this holiday season and can't seem to find anything decent on the tele. I've already watched the latest Harry Potter movie, Serenity and Ghost in the Shell 2. Need More!! btw: currently watching Enterprise on Sky One, and it is unbelievably irritating. Everything about this series stinks! From the opening title sequence, the childish-like screen personas to the ungripping storyline. I really want to scream at the scripwriters sometimes. At least they repeat TNG and Voyager that I can watch and enjoy. God, I would even settle for the original series to Enterprise anyday. I'm really exited to renting Night Watch[^] when it gets released later this month. Why have they waited so long to release this movie on DVD? It was in the cinema ages ago. Anyone recommend some fixes for my sci fi addiction?

Yeah. The original pilot series was untouched. But all of Season One episodes in the box set and the Season Two episodes that's currently being played are redubbed. I find that a bit silly, since it gets aired past the broadcast water-shed anyway.

I haven't watched the new BSG, but in the original, "frack" was used as a pesudo-swear word. Maybe when you hear "frag" it's just them reusing that word?

Enterprise was a good concept, but the execution was just awful. Season 1 showed promise, and I liked season 3 with the year-long arc, but the rest was pretty forgettable.

I recommend 'Natural City', a Korean sci-fi, it's really very good. A good story, and stunning visuals. If you haven't seen 'Dark City' allready, then do it now, it's one of my favourites. Last: The latest Dr. Who series. My girlfriend gave me the first season for Christmas, and I want more! I have one one complaint though, but I don't want to spoil the experience mentioning it. I thought about that. I've got and watched all three extended versions of TLOTR on DVD (though I still haven't gone as far as watched the director's commentary, so I can't claim I've watched all of the DVDs)! I also watched The Clone Wars animation DVD last week. I should have bought part 2 this week, but I didn't:(

Thanks. I've got the Dark City DVD. I think it was one of the most under-estimated movie around. The same thing happened with Donnie Darko, though its now got a cult following (me included :-D).

Yep. Watched the first in the new series today. Nice. I too have some reservations, but nothing is without fault.

Cool. I haven't heard of this one. I'll add it to my wish list then. The only other Korean movie that comes to mind is Old Boy. Absolutely brilliant, but gritty and dark movie. I bought the DVD on recommendation only and have never regretted it.

That's what I thought -- I assume that they're just carrying on the old "frack" tradition from the original series. It sounds to me like that's what they're saying. I do miss "felgercarb" -- I haven't heard it on the new series, so I assume it's lost. :( I still use it occasionally in conversation and do get some weird looks.

Have you seen Stargate (SG1 the TV series)? I liked the first 7 years. I haven’t seen any of the newer episodes. An off shoot of SG1, there is Atlantis, same concept different galaxy. Outer limits is another entertaining show.

I second the Battlestar Galactica recomendation. Dr. Who is also enjoyable as is Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1, though the last season of the latter was awfully weak. I personally found Enterprise far more tolerable than Voyager and Deep Space Nine. Either G4 or SciFi channel have been running uncut versions of original Star Trek episodes (not Star Trek 2.0, which is hideous)--despite the cheesy sets, it's so much better than all the later Star Trek series. Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what's good for people than people do is a swine. - P.J. O'Rourke

BSG, Gattaca and Dark City off the top of my head. I'd avoid all the Stargate series. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

Gattaca! what a classic! That was a few years ago now. I haven't seen anything done recently that quite matches that movie. Also it was done on a 'small budget' (compared to a typical Hollywood Sci-Fi), and still comes across with class and style. Starship Troopers is another good lower budget sci fi that comes to mind. Unfortunately the sequel was pants X|

So, how did you find 'Natural city'? :-) I'm just asking to see if I'm so overly nerdish to accept whatever Sci-fi above the level of Startrek, SG-1 and such.
