Anyone using a Nokia 770?
-
Hi, The Nokia 770[^] seems to be a perfect fit for me; a small wireless webbrowser with a decent screen size. Anyone care to share their experience with the device? Or can recommend something better? Thanks. --- There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Go Samsung in my book - if you can get past the fact that their menus seem to be coded by someone a penchent for making you go "the long way round", it's difficult (IMHO) to find better kit... Have a D600 - WANT A D800 BAD!!! "Now I guess I'll sit back and watch people misinterpret what I just said......" Christian Graus At The Soapbox

But that's a real phone (and a really cool one), the Nokia 770 is just a tablet pc which is what I want. --- There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

I read a review of the 770 in a Linux oriented magazine recently (can't remember which one off the top of my head). The review was mostly negative which struck me as odd since the 770 runs a custom Linux distribution. Generally the Linux magazines are very heavily biased toward Linux based devices and to see that they gave the 770 such a poor review would cause me concern if I was in the market for one. I'll try to dig up the magazine article this evening for you.

I've also read that some app's, like the email client, is slow. That doesn't bother me too much, I just need a decent web browser.

My Mom bought me one for a present. Let’s just say it is the first present I have ever returned. The wireless is hinkey; it dropped the connection all the time. The email application was crap; it couldn't handle IMAP (correctly). Mildly complex websites caused it to crash. It could only link with nokia phones. I’ve seen some defend it by arguing that it is only supposed to be used a cheep and portable web browser. For me it was just unable to get the job done. After I returned it, I picked up a spiffy iPaq that does all that the 770 promised; just much better. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

Okay, I think this settles it then, no Nokia 770 for me. Thanks for sharing.
