For a commercial app i need to locate registered businesses in a Map and calculate distance from a given location. Will google map be a best solution for the above? Also... is it free to use in commercial apps..? Thanks in advance...

At the Google Maps API developers website, you find the most definitive answer, but I'd be surprised that you can use it freely in a commercial application. Chris Meech I am Canadian. The cost of the metals in a penny rose to 0.8 cents last week, and the government spends at least another 0.6 cents to mint each one-cent coin. [The New York Times]

They used to limit the number of page views you could use with the map, but that limitation has since been lifted (they just say "talk to us if you're expecting heavy traffic") You say you want to locate registered businesses - were you hoping to be able to enter the name of the company and display it on a map, the way you can within google maps (what used to be called google local?) - The map API only covers the ability to display a map with your own data on it - you cannot use their "local" directories to perform your own searches. Also they don't supply access to their routefinding data, so any distance you could calculate would be just a "as the crow flies" distance -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit! Buzzwords!
