web developers without a website??

how many web developers out there, who either work freelance or have their own business, haven't yet built their own site? i thought this would be a rare thing, but i've come across quite a few acquaintences lately that have been working freelance for years, but still have an "Under Construction" page displaying - myself included! nicko

I think we as Web Developers know what to put on the NET. We don't want to put anything redundent on the NET! Basically we always strive to design better web pages that's why we dont have websites - because we can always do better... Fritz Illegal Operation Making Computer Software Talk

You have more of a site than me also, at least you have a domain and "under construction" page. :) Word of mouth seems to be enough business for now and unless you have something of value to put on the web why put up another advertisement? -Richard

A good editor would recognize a typo for what it is. X| Asking someone to define CP is like asking someone to define art. It is a known, a tangable thing, a state of being. To define it is to limit and miss its true nature.

I have a website but it has become stale. It is not an accurate representation of my current programming ability. If a potential client were to judge my web development skills by my personal website they would never hire me, but if they were to look at my client portfolio they would. This post has inspired me to devote some time to my personal site. Thanks! -RezBeatIt -- modified at 15:19 Tuesday 9th May, 2006

yeah, i had designed and mostly built my site, then got swamped in work so left it. when i finally got back to it some months later i found that my skills had grown significantly, and realised then what you have said above - it is not, and would never be, a true representation of my current abilities. i let my portfolio demonstrate my abilities, not my own site, and i explain this to potential clients - they always seem happy to accept that. nicko

I'd maintain that it's not a foreign concept for a lot of professionals of other kinds of work either. Sure I'm generalizing a bit but, how many mechanics do you know with nice cars?

Yip i'm also one of thoose blokes that start developing my own site from scratch everytime because of how i feel my ability has changed and always get side tracked when alot of work comes my way... But this msg board has inspired me to just get it over and done with and keep it a priority  "Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting." --John Russell

Weel even tho it's a generalization i must agree the you opinion but i think the kind of profession that we and software developers find ourselves in people tend to judge things that are not tangable differently to that of .i.e. mechanic and electricians and so on ... but good point man ...
