Go To MyPC is using the wrong thing
-
Modest opinion here, however I have been using GoTo MyPC forever to access to all the computers inside any network that I control. I love Remote Terminal Services however of course does not work with computers inside a firewall. I was tired of paying so much money to GoToMyPC people for that weird java program so I wrote my own solution. I call it GoToMyTunnel :-) Simple Client and Server proxy so I can now use RTS with any computer with private IPs or protected by firewalls as I open a socket out using port 80, not many people filters port 80 out ;-) After canceling GoToMyPC I am saving so much money. Now, this is the question, do you think I should open a company as GotoMyPC? Go to your Remote Terminal Service? Still cannot understand why they went with a java program, were they allow to use RTS? Good thing about GTMPC is being Java the programs runs everywhere. I was missing my RTS! I'm so happy I got it back!!! Al My eMail control My Blog

Share it on CodeProject!! ;P Seriously, there are several companies that allow things like remote administration, remote assistance, and remote everything on the web. If you have the time and the desire to do it, and you have something that differentiates yourself from everyone else, then by all means do it!! Otherwise, don't bother with it. Just remember that running your own business will take all your time (and some more). But if it works, being your own boss is the best thing there's in life! :) Whatever you decide to do, keep us informed! And I'll be waiting for my free account! ;P

Luis, I'll send you the code if you want, is not that exciting yet, and a product like that should have security, right now the ports are not protected, so when you install it into a desktop will allow anybody to access to your RTS if they connect to the server using RTS, will tunnel anybody, this should be a HUGE security problem ;P The program fixes my problem, that's why I wrote it, if I was thinking to create a product to sell, I would put at least MAC address security on the client and on the server. Its all C# using TcpClient and TcpListener and proxing the sockets. Nothing exciting but it works really well. I also now use it for accessing IIS servers from inside networks as some programs only allows you to open the configuration from 127.0.0.1 Cheers PS. Do you want me to send you the code on your email address? compressed is not big at all My eMail control My Blog

So, what was your IP address again? ;P Yes, making something usable a business will take 10 times the amount of work, I know from experience!! But if you have the desire, it's well worth the reward.

Sure! I would love to take a look at it. I have almost never used sockets, so I will learn something! Thanks!

Sent you way!! Have fun and let me know how it works for you. On the client, you got a configuration file where you need to put where you want to connect, server ip port 6060 client ip and the port depending on the system you want to work with, IIS, RTS, Telnet , etc .. You know that with http://www.logmein.com[^] you get 3 or 5 accounts for free? It lets you remote on to them from anywhere using an HTTPS connection etc...
If we all used the Plain English compiler every post in the lounge would be a programming question.
Welcome to CP in your language. Post the unicode version in My CP Blog [ ^ ] now.People who don't understand how awesome Firefox is have never used CPhog. The act of using CPhog alone doesn't make Firefox cool. It opens your eyes to the possibilities and then you start looking for other things like CPhog and your eyes are suddenly open to all sorts of useful things all through Firefox. - (Self Quote)

Bastards!! I didn't see the free accounts https://secure.logmein.com/go.asp?page=purchase_pro[^] Well, took me a day to write my own stuff. On the info page does not say if they use the MS RTS and if works inside networks with firewalls. My dreams of fame and fortune are gone ... :(( Al My eMail control My Blog

I've paid for over 150 accounts with them and I have yet to find a firewall it won't go through. However some administrators will choose to block it. There are some firewalls that have intrusion prevention services that by default block logmein, gotomypc, Windows Remote Desktop, VNC, etc... You just create the right rule and it will work. Check the logs and adjust the rules. I have to do this for all of my clients running behind firewalls I configure for them but I have yet to be anywhere else where it wouldn't work seemlessly. It's a fine product.

150 accounts? Must cost you a fortune! I have used before VNC and gotomypc. However I always wanted to be able to use RTS, easier to set up on Windows 2003 servers, only one check box. Now with what I wrote I can access to any computer by connecting to a different port into my server and it tunnels to the computer. One day I'll improve it by working on the client, installer, auto update etc ... I'm pretty happy how it works. Lots of bugs to clean of course Cheers Al My eMail control My Blog

I kept reading that as lo-mein, wondering how in the world Chinese noodles could have anything to do with remote connection software. Clicked on the link...Ah, LogMeIn! :-O Marc Pensieve Some people believe what the bible says. Literally. At least [with Wikipedia] you have the chance to correct the wiki -- Jörgen Sigvardsson
