More irony: The game, slated for release by October 2006 in advance of the Christmas shopping rush On the other hand, it's no different than any other violent games kids are playing nowadays. They're mature enough to separate fiction from reality, right? It helps keep them off the street and build their reflexes, right? Video games have been shown to be good for brain development, right? Besides, it'll sell like hotcakes. As usual, if there wasn't a market for it, other people wouldn't invest in making the product. We need a video game that pits peaceloving, free love, pot smoking hippy against the warmonger consumer. Hippy weapons include: Massage, meditation, and shrooms, with safe houses at the Esalen Institute[^]. ;P Marc Pensieve Some people believe what the bible says. Literally. It's a bit hypocritical for evangelicals to make a violent video game when they criticize atheists for doing it. However, I can't find a reference on the game creator's website or evidence on this one to the "Christian Theocracy" theme that it suggests. It looks like it's about some post-rapture apocoplyptic battle.

That's easy to answer. It's all open to subjective interpretation. How you view it is completely different than, say, how they view it. This is a classic conundrum with all philosophical ideologies.

Religions need to evolve. You can't spread religion through peace - that's not a very successful mechanism. If violent games work better, then people are going to use that I guess. Regards, Nish

Well the apostles and the early church (pre-Constantine) did a good job of spreading Christianity with a strong emphasis on pacifism. But the Christianity they lived and the Gospel they preached are much different from that of today. The Gospel that Jesus and His apostles taught and lived was one of love, compassion, forgiveness, a whole-hearted commitment to helping others in all areas of life, and to standing up to and fighting injustice, cruelty, suffering, and all that causes damage in people's lives. Today, the emphasis is in most cases on being saved not for the purpose of being saved from sin to follow Christ, but for the purpose of getting to heaven, and on following the right rules, looking good, going to church, and tithing. Because there is nothing truly compelling left to strive for, groups like the one mentioned in the OP resort to getting people to rally behind a militant cause.

I've yet to see one person who can back up the idea of violence in the name of Christ, or pre-emptive war for that matter, using the New Testament. The best they can do is fudge and quote out of context, and then turn to Augustine's "Just War Theory".

I'm not defending the guy this is directed to, rather I'm taking issue with the poke at the educational system. I was educated in both the European and North American systems. From personal experience I can say that Europe's system of education is no better or worse than that across the pond. And yes, they both teach irony.

I'm not defending the guy this is directed to, rather I'm taking issue with the poke at the educational system. I was educated in both the European and North American systems. From personal experience I can say that Europe's system of education is no better or worse than that across the pond. And yes, they both teach irony.

Well, if you accept that the origins of the new testament can be dated prior to 200 AD, then Urban II during his speech at the Council of Clermont comes to mind. Of course I condemn any type of violence in the name of religion or otherwise. Furthermore, I also agree with you that the New testament is intended to be a book that illustrates the benefits of peace. However, even when the bible is quoted out of context some people will always remain receptive to distorted ideologies.

I think Score 1 recognized David's attempt at irony and attacked it for drawing moral equivalence between bombing a bus and making a video violent game.
