Installing Platform SDK

I'm trying to install the Platform SDK, and Internet Exploder keeps coming up with an error dialog that says explorer needs to be re-started, and asks if I want to send a bug report to Microslop. The IE version on the machine is 6.02 This happens on both the MSDN October and February Platform SDK CD's, so I don't think it's a problem with either of the CD's. Well, our sys admin setup the machine and updated IE 5.5 to 6.0 (his decision before I even got the machine). I asked him about it, and he's gonna re-install 5.5 and see if that doesn't fix my problem. This is precisely the problem I have with Microsoft. They insist on trying to make things easier for us, but when they do, we have to sacrifice compatibility, configurability, and many many times, usability. And the more technically savvy you are, the less likely it is that you're going to like what Microsoft does. Gotta love that bundling of the OS and the Web Browser, huh? :-D I think it has to do with their HTML help stuff, though. Why simply adding new information to MSDN requires a browser update though is beyond me. The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

I also tried with February Platform SDK CD's, but no luck until know. I have alrey IE6, but even then it is not working. During the install process it tells something about missing files, but they are there. Moved the whole to a directory, but still no luck. The last PSDK installed sucessfully is the August Version. They have an Internet upgrade version, which is also not working. Is it so difficult for MS to create a decent working setup . This whole DHTML GUI for the installation sucks big time :mad: I hope they will come to their senses and use a normal MSI setup next time. This can't be the future. If this is the forecast about how the NET future will look alike, then we all a really in for it. I am a signature virus! Help me spread and copy me to your sig! Ooops I am infected

I know I want to steer clear of .NET until/unless I am bloody sure our customers can actually install it correctly. Hope the .NET redistributables are better than the SDK installs... :-O The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Why indeed? I recall installing VS5 - it could not be done without installing IE3.02 - but I was already using 4.x, a couple of generations newer! And since then I was on a modem, downloading the current version after the install took fourteen hours. Morons....
