We've had a bunch of new members sign up in the last month and I was thinking it would be cool if all the new members lurking in the shadows wondering if they should say something would step up on the soapbox and introduce themselves to everyone. Actually I was a lurker for about 2 years before signing on as a member. Forgot how long it's been since I'v been a member. Do I still count as new Chris? ;P I'v been coding since a teen using straight basic at the time, didn't get serious about it till college when I discovered that a monitor wasn't mono-chrome any more. Used straight c for quite sometime with Borlands old Turbo C++ when windows just began. Didn't get into actual C++ till a bit later. I couldn't stand Windows what so ever, I was to comfortable at the old dos prompt goofing with debug typing out some cheezy small com executibles and using Turbo C++ for my straight C stuff. Just started learning windows/mfc programming for the past almost 3 years. Since then I'v learned alot from this site and everyone here. Best place I'v found on the net to actually ask questions and get some kind of feed back; I can't ask the books I got a question. Think even got under the skin of a MSFT (think it was Hodapp) so far for MSDN being picky with me. Hope he didn't take it to bad. All in all, It's been fun learning from everyone here and I hope to help contribute more soon between my off time. I have a 21 inch monitor and cable access and I think about Nish on a regular basis. ;P

Like another member posted, I'm a lurker more than a newbie, but I'll take this opportunity to blab. I've always been a fan of science fiction, and when I found out my high school had a computer terminal, I went to the teacher in charge of it and asked how I could learn to use a computer. She didn't know me from Adam, but she gave me a book on BASIC for the HP 3000 (excellent book) and the next day I was there after school programming on a 110 cps ASR33 teletype. It was 1974. Since then I've programmed Z80's in assembly language, CP/M systems, Apples, industrial automation using embedded processors, Windows systems, systems I designed and breadboarded myself, you name it. Now I program mainly in C and C++ in Windows or Palm OS. Between designing computers, servicing computers and programming them, I've been working steadily ever since high school. Never had a problem getting a new job. Until now. Since getting laid off after Sept. 11, I haven't been able to find anything here in Marin County or nearby. Now I know how women feel wanting a date and the phone never rings. I've been writing code, playing with plug-in architecture and AI and whatnot, but it's hard to concentrate on that when you've got a family and a mortgage to feed and no income. <insert violins here> At any rate, you can read more about my interests on my web site for those of you haven't already fallen asleep. Love the Code Project and forums. I visit every day to see what's new and what the frequenti are clowning about. Keep up the good work. Looks like AOL nuked my directory somehow. None of my files are there, and there are Unix-type directories there now: /dev, /bin, /usr etc. Very odd. Tech support was someone on a choppy phone connection with an India accent who told me to try again tomorrow. AOL is evil! :) If it's still gone tomorrow, I guess I'll have to re-upload everything.
