So, the first thing I experience is that it only gives me two options for searching pictures. Don't search isn't one of them. Search only this folder isn't the other. I don't keep my pictures in "My Pictures" and I didn't want it to scan the whole darn drive, as, guess what, it was THE WRONG DRIVE! Morons. Next, how do you stop it from scanning. Can't, as far as I figure. OK, so everything is categorized by date. WTF? I don't want it categorized by date, I want it categorized by folder. In fact, I want to GET RID of all the crap it found on THE WRONG DRIVE and scan just one folder!!! I can't select all the folders in the Folders on Disk. And there are hundreds. And if I select an individual one it asks "Remove from Picasa?" and now I have to say yes, doubling the time it takes because there is no "remove all/select all" option. And if I right-click on "Folder on Disk" and select "Remove Collection", it says "Sorry, the "Folders on Disk" cannot be removed". THEN WHY DO YOU GIVE ME THE FRIGGIN' OPTION ON THE CONTEXT MENU!!!!! Open the Folder Manager (Tools->Folder Manager). Select "My Pictures" from the tree at left. Select the "Remove from Picasa" radio button. Confirm. Ok. Done.

And repeat for several 100 more folders, right? Well, I uninstalled it already. Maybe I'll try it again in a few years. Marc Pensieve Some people believe what the bible says. Literally. At least [with Wikipedia] you have the chance to correct the wiki -- Jörgen Sigvardsson

My only experience with Picasa was yesterday and I have exactly the same situation as yours. Cancel out of thet screen and fdrom the File menu select "Add Folder To Picasa", that's how I narrowed the searching to a particular folder.:) Tools->Folder Manager is where you can add remove folders to and from Picasa or click on "Remove From Picasa" in the context menu.

Not unless you've gone in and explicitly added several 100 more folders. When you "watch" a folder (and as you found, the default is to just watch My Documents and My Pictures), all images in that folder and subfolders are added to Picasa, and then these folders are scanned periodically for new images (and new subfolders...). Remove the folder via the Folder Manger, and all it contains are immediately removed from Picasa. That said, i suspect Picasa isn't quite what you're looking for. It works great for me - i've used it for a couple of years now, for browsing and categorizing all my photos and other images, as well as printing and light retouching - but then again, my needs are fairly simple, and i always have Explorer (for heavy-duty file management) and The GIMP (for heavy-duty retouching) to fall back on.
