Yes, jello is a brand but it's what we use instead of "gelatin." Kind of like "kleenex" for facial tissue. The first time in Australia I asked for kleenex no one knew what the heck I was asking for. rubbish bin = trash can Oh, and I've never heard it called a "barbie." Everyone I knew called it a Weber...the brand name. Now i want an Anzac cookie. They don't sell them at our Subways. Oh, what is Burger King again there? Hungy Jack? btw..where in Mel?

We have Kleenex, we're just less likely to replace a generic term with a brand, for some reason. Yeah, it's a rubbish bin. A BBQ is a barbie. A Weber is one of those dome things. A barbie can be a pile of bricks with a steel plate over it. Burger King was Burger King the first time, they came back as Hungry Jacks. The menus are all different as well. WE don't have tons of stuff like Jack in a box, Steak n shake, Taco Bell, etc. Melbourne is on the bottom right, it's a port city. Tasmania is an island state below it, that's where I live now. I find myself using US terminology because the main person I speak to nowadays besides my family is in Texas. Some friends called me on it last night, I think I said cookies, or candy perhaps. Hard to explain... there's just something delightfully wrong about going hiking and then stopping off for a bloody mary and a cigarette. Kinda like going for a cheeseburger and milkshake after a visit to the dentist...

Damn, and here I thought it was my breasts, uh, I mean, personality. After college was always fun. I come from a small state where people tend to stay in the area after graduation. I always get, "Hey! I remember you! I had class xyz with you!" No doubt you remember me. I was always the one white girl in every computer class...

Amature hour. I hit a kangaroo once at about 120 km/h. The car was a write off, the chassis was bent out of shape and the roo hopped away. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear

Although he plays a starring role, this didn't strike me as a Tom Cruise movie so much as just a good movie with an excellent cast all around. It was set in the Meiji Restoration period of Japan, when they decided to go western industrial and consequently obsoleted the Samurai, some of whom decided not to go quietly. It's a movie about honor, duty and the knightly code of the warrior (Samurai were the Japanese equivalent of the European medeival knights). It's beautifully shot and is a very moving experience. If you rent the DVD, get the wide screen version. Author of The Career Programmer and Unite the Tribes

V8 can also make a nice base for a Bloody Mary. Add some Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, lemon, salt, pepper, celery, and oh yeah, a healthy dose of vodka. Heavy on the Worcestershire sauce if you want to take the lightness out of the V8. Of course, the best thing about Bloody Maries is that you can use cheap vodka. Can't get away with that in a martini. :-D Author of The Career Programmer and Unite the Tribes

That's how I know as an American I spent too much time in Australia. You start to think of roos as deer with long tails. For those of you Americans who have never been to Oz, they have kangaroo crossing signs like we have deer crossing signs. They are everywhere and also give the "deer/kangaroo look in the headlights."

I would go back and visit my past selves at the following ages: 10 years old: Tell myself to insist my father keep up his visitation rights, and insist on my seeing him. I haven't seen him since. 14 years old: I'd tell him that, even if it got me beat up, hit G.B. back, at least once. 18 years old: I'd smack that first pack of cigarrettes out of my hand, and I tell myself that I would come back and kill my sorry ass if I picked them up again. 19 years old: I don't care if the sex is that good; you can wait until you get out of college to get married. 23 years old: Tell T.R. to take his job offer, fold it until it's all sharp corners, and ... 34 years old: I'd tell him it isn't going to work, and he had the right idea in the first place. He knows what I'm talking about, so I won't explain it here.

To have a partner to share life with before I get too old to remember why I wanted one in the first place! Material possessions aren't work anything compared to that.

I'd get rid of my procrastination and my fear of success. BW

Simple solution - They say to do everything in moderation. So just moderate your procrastination to one activity. In other words, procrastinate on procrastination itself.

I'd like to turn the sun down a good five degrees celsius. But mostly I wish I could carry on living the past three months as things were, but unfortunately change is inevitable.
