Best UI Suite ? [modified]

Hello, I finally "decided" (was forced ) to use a UI Suite on my programs. But there are a lot out there. Which is in your opinion the best one ? Ben - edit - Ups sorry totally forgot. I'm just a boring MSVC++ developer :^)

If you're using .NET then Infragistics is the best. Period. If someone tells you otherwise, they're lying. :) Josh

I'm currently using ComponentArt and while it's not bad I'll be adding Infragistics and not renewing my CA subscription I think.

I worked at Infragistics for 2 years. I was in the WinForms control team and know from first hand experience that those guys are the freakin best. Their controls are simply much better than C1, or any other ISV out there. Hands down. Josh

Before you decide get their evaluation packs and give 'em a whirl. I picked a sample project with several dialogs, a report, database connection etc. and did a quick implementation using the various packages. I liked the Developer Express WinForms pack better than Infragistics when I evaluated them, partly because they included a reporting package at the time (14 months ago) and Infragistics did not. It's gotten even better since then (they've added a graphing component, scheduling component etc.). Their reporting stuff is excellent. I know others have had problems with their controls in the past, especially with them not working right if the properties of a control were set in the wrong order (there really shouldn't be a wrong order). I haven't run into that at all lately, so I assume that's been taken care of. I think the bang-for-buck factor is pretty astounding, regardless of which major vendor you pick. Cheers, Drew.

Real nice and affordable and stable http://www.devcomponents.com/[^] But why do you "have to" use an (undetermined) suite? I could understand that you have to use a particular one, but a yet to be determined? That's kind of weird :~

I disagree with you. I've used the BCG suite for a while and the UI was sluggish. I'm now using the Xtreme Toolkit Pro and be far more happier than I was with the BCG.

I guess I must be lying then. :-D The controls were all really good in the Infragistics pack though (nice work on those!) - just didn't have a comprehensive reporting package which, for me, was a deal killer. I went with Dev Express. Cheers, Drew.
Liar! ;P Just kidding. Yeah, reporting is not something IG covers at all. Are the Dev Express reporting libraries a lot better than using Crystal Reports? Josh

Yes, they are also better than most other reporting for .net components. As for what's better than using Crystal Reports, ummm..name just about any horrific activity you can think of, it's still better than using Crystal Reports. I have gray hairs that I can specifically attribute to Crystal Reports.

I work in a reporting group, but I never touch the stuff. I am a lucky man in that I get to code in nothing but C# WinForms all day (at least I see that as lucky). The closest I've come to CR is writing a windows service that processes the reports periodically. Other than that, no CR-related grays for me! ;P

Hi there, For a big SW project we did a long evaluation (2 years ago) and came up with: UI Suite: Infragistics (still one of the best) Charting: C1 (best performance for large data amounts) Reporting: List & Labels (not yet used but evaluated. Has some features we need that Crystal Reports doesn't have) Happy coding Daniel :-)

Web Apps: Infragistics suite is the best that I have used. We did a lot of evaluations last year and decided to go with IG....with no regrets. The one reson we never went for Dev Express for our Web Apps was that their web grid control didnt have the heirarchial functionality that IG has. Win Apps: Dev Express. Again, after a lot of evaluation we decide to use Dev Express for one of our Win products. They are very eay to use and provide a rich UI experience. The ability to change skin/themes on the fly was also a big plus, enabling users to customise their own look and feel. Cheers, Craig ** I'd rather try and fail than fail to try ;) **
