    I am very surprised, you havent even mentioned price as a criteria.:^) You must be one of the managers. No offence intended though.:laugh: Abhishek

      Hi, If you were to buy a digital camera, what would you take ? Are the Nikon "Coolpix"s good ? How about the Canons ? I am hesitating between a Nikon Coolpix 8800 (which is sold 490euros), and a Nikon Reflex D50 + 18/55 mm + 55/200 mm sold 650euros (or 499 for the Nikon alone). What are important for me is quickness ( I do not want to wait 2 seconds between two shots or 5 seconds when I switch on the camera before being able to take a picture), and loadable battery. I think 6M pixels is sufficient. ~RaGE();

      Hi, I just bought a Nikon D200 (well it's not so cheap) but I can definitely recommend this camera. It's fast, reliable and well organized. But to decide on which camera to buy, mostly when looking for a SLR the lens are the main factor. Alot of people say the body of an SLR doesn't count so much. If you have bad lens a good body is obsolete. If you have lenses from an analog camera I would stick to the brand you had before. So if you have Canon lens, take a Canon body, otherwise you have to buy the lenses all again. If you have no lenses then my opinion is, it doesn't make a big difference if you choose Canon or Nikon. Just take what suites you. There was a Sony SLR released not long ago. It might be an option to the main players Canon and Nikon. For very good details about all sorts of cameras I prefer the site: http://www.dpreview.com Have fun Daniel :-)

        Always Reflex! if the size is not important. I have Konica Minolta Konica Minolta Dynax 5D (Now bought for Sony) I think that stabilizer is important. Seems that D50 don't have it. Good page with camera reviews: http://www.steves-digicams.com/ in spanish: http://www.quesabesde.com/ Excuse my english, please.

          Also pay attention to the autofocus delay (aka shutter lag). If you've ever taken a picture of absolutely nothing because whatever you were pointed at ran/flew/hopped/slithered away while your camera was groping for its buttcheeks with both hands, then you understand what I mean. When shopping, I like to take two cameras, point them at something with not much contrast, and click the shutter. Whichever one takes longer gets handed back to the salesman. The last time I looked, I wasn't impressed with Nikons, but I was at a lower price point than you are. Oh, and inevitably, when shutter lag is mentioned, some chucklehead suggests prefocusing. Yes, prefocusing removes some (but not all) shutter lag, but it only works if you only take pictures of things that aren't moving, such as mountains or the US soccer team. Any camera will work fine for "Still Life With Fruit", but try that with a dragonfly or a hyperactive 2 year old and see what you get. Enjoy your new toy! -- prr

            An incredible site that I've used a lot over the years for camera reviews and buying decisions is http://imaging-resource.com/[^] It has everything you'd want to know about cameras and can help you narrow down your choices and options based on your price range or recommended picks. It also includes very detailed reviews and side by sides of what any camera's performance looks like using different lighting conditions and objects. Happy camera hunting :-D A programmer with a dream can accomplish anything. So, start by implementing your castle in the clouds and then working on its interface to a foundation :-D Quote by: Jeremy Pemberton-Pigott
