For the first time ever, I watched a World Cup Soccer game, the final game, so I think I can tell you what he's talking about. Zinedine Zidane: this French soccer player is apparently one of the best players in the world (the commentators on TV were calling him "Master" every time he ran down the field). This is his last season before retirement, so it would've been nice for him and his team (France) to win the World Cup. But things turned sour for him yesterday, as he was red flagged (signaled for a penalty) for a head-butt to the chest of some other player, IIRC. So he was out for the rest of the game. The game then went on in a 1 to 1 tie into 2 overtimes. After 2 overtimes, the rules say you must have a penalty kick shootout, best of 5 kicks for each team. Italy won those kicks, 4 to 3 IIRC, thus winning the world cup and putting an end to all the CP forum posts about the World Cup. At least, for another 4 years. :)

In the final match, he hit another player head at head and that player fell in the field. I think he was annoyed by Referee's ignorance at that player's close-up defense. Het got Red Car for that action. Best, Jun

http://antithesis98.blogspot.com/2006/07/why-did-zidane-to-it-because-materazzi.html[^] However I dont mind my hero doing it, unless its not to me, infact i liked the way he hit. Still I consider him as the best player, he does magic with the ball.

I don't believe it. Materazzi not did but said something who irked ZZ. I wonder if we will ever know what was said :suss:

Ah, good for Brazil! It was in the numbers, if I recall that other post a few weeks ago. Numerology is always right, even if it conflicts with reality! ;P Marc Pensieve Some people believe what the bible says. Literally. Ack. A rather unglorious way to end his career. If he were a Klingon, he would at least head-butted the referee too. Marc Pensieve Some people believe what the bible says. Literally. At least [with Wikipedia] you have the chance to correct the wiki -- Jörgen Sigvardsson

FWIW, a bar full of people burst out laughing when that happened. I guess we yanks are still a violent crew at heart.
