You need to understand something - I am a MASSIVE Radiohead fan, and if Thom Yorke were to record himself farting into a tin can, I would probably buy it! :) However, that said, "The Eraser" is superb and is far better than I expected. It is in a very similar vein to "Kid A" (my favourite album of the 00's) but the thing that drives it is Thoms voice. I was expecting his voice to have been cut up/messed with, but no, it cuts through the beats/bleeps/guitar (yes, there are guitars on this record) and reminds you what a talented singer he is. It isn't an easy album to get into though - it will take a few listens, but I would say that out of the 9 tracks, 7 are outstanding and 2 are average. Also, there is an amazing video of Thom performing one of The Eraser tracks ("The Clock") from the Henry Rollins show a few weeks ago. You have to see it to believe it really - the guitar playing is fantastic. Listening to the Minutemen - Project Mersh. Here's an obscure (and Aussie!) metal band for you, Christian - I bought the first album (Queen of Thieves) by Taramis in 1987/8 - ever heard of them? Standard metal, really, liked the title track (IIRC) when I heard Tommy Vance[^] play it on the Friday Rock Show[^]. Can't remember much else about the album - it's on vinyl and I don't play vinyl much... This[^] is about the only page about them I can find on the web (but our IT people block out around 90% of the Internet, so there may be more pages about them).
That is indeed obscure, I've never heard of them. I shall have to keep an eye out. Another Aussie band I'd love to get on CD is Heaven.

Warp? Oh man, you'll love it then! That is all Thom Yorke was listening to when Kid A/Amnesiac were recorded - the Warp back catalogue! :)

Actually I'm not listening to anything at the moment but I have a request for the CP music gods... I've read a couple good reviews of the new Tom Petty - Highway Companion[^] CD and I'm wondering if anyone here has given it a listen? Good? / Bad? / Worth $15?

Sounds pretty good. I really liked Wildflowers - particularly You Wreck Me, Honey Bee and A Higher Place - so I'm looking at where I can get this in the UK.

Yeah, yeah, Christian is gonna rave about some obscure metal band again... Well, actually, I got the Angel City remasters and worked through them, then I went looking through my collection. I went to 'P' (what, you don't think I sort my 800 odd CD's by name ? ), expecting to grab Poison, and I ended up with Pink Floyd. I have the remasters of Wish you were here, Dark Side of the moon and The Wall, and I've listened to them in order. I think I'll start again, this is some pretty timeless music.

I think they are awsome. I've seen them live twice and they were really really good. Second time they did an acoustic Black Hole Sun and a few other Soundgarden classics. I even have a couple of photos [^]
