Hi there. I have a question about broadband internet in the area of Kolkata. How much does a 10MBit line typically cost? I wonder because a college told me a ridiculus high price.... Thanks for any response...

man forget about a 10mbit line in india - atleast for home users. also you wont get any unlimited data limit plans. I am not in or from india but i have friends from there and internet there is not anywhere as good as america/europe. Japan and Korea are in a different league all together. home users mostly use 256kbps-2mbps lines with small data caps like 1GB-10GB (but im not too sure)

10Mbps for home users is not available in most Indian cities. You have to put up with 512k - 2Mbps. The typical monthly rates are (in USD) 512K = $ 50-80 1Mbps = $ 100 - 120 2Mbps = $ 200 - 220 You can pay yearly and get a 10-15% discount Here are some providers for Kolkata (Calcutta) http://airtel-broadband.com/tariff/tariff.htm[^] http://www.calcuttatelephones.com/tariff_broadband.shtml[^]

:omg: I haven't heard of anybody with 10MBit lines, at least for homes. Most people are still on dialup, but in the metros (Calcutta is one) you can get a 256 or 512 K 'broadband' connection. Yes, we're still a third world country. :sigh:
š Cheers, Vikram.

Only wondering why you need it? Cause 521 MBps is cool speed for browsing and downloading small stuff. Only if you need very heavy data transfer you would need something like 10MBps. For what purpose do you want those line at home?

I don't know about Kolkata but in delhi its not available for home use. Secondly i think you will have much better luck if you ask your local ISP about this rather than lounge.
Jesus loves you. But I'm his favorite.

Those are insane prices :omg: :omg: For about $30 CAD (about $27 USD) I've seen my downloads over 300 KB/sec (byte not bit!), but once you get over about 80 KB/sec it depends very much on the other end of the line anyway (i.e. most sites aren't that fast anyway).

Once you get used to a high-speed connection, going back to a slow connection is unbearable.
