Arranging the DeckChairs on the Titanic
-
I first encountered the "deck chairs" phrase on page 148 of Tufte's "Visual Explanations" - today I was again reminded of it by the CNN article Dobbs: It's good to be a superpower[^] This article reinforces my mental picture of the US debt bubble, as similar to the final test they gave to the carbon-fiber-reinforced wing of the Boeing 777 airliner, towards the end of the PBS series. With just metal it might have been more gradual, however the 777 wing bent to an amazing degree, and then disintegrated much faster than the blink of an eye. Of course "divide and rule" is everything - what's an individual to do, what's YOUR strategy, beyond "party on" for now.....

Hmm, the rest of the world sends us tangible useful things and we send them electronic data we claim is money.
Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what's good for people than people do is a swine. - P.J. O'Rourke

"...the used shipping container. Cheap, strong and easily transportable by boat, truck or train, these big steel structures now litter the ports of America as mementos of our Asian-trade imbalance." -- [Innovative architects turn used shipping containers into homes](http://Innovative architects turn used shipping containers into homes)[^] Once upon a time, white fella sell Indian blankets for land. While turnabout is surely fair play, "hubris" is such a great word - somehow there has never been anywhere near the "Moral Equivalent of War" spirit which might have successfully coped.
