This is heresay, and in recent times I've found antisemite is just another name for someone who doesn't assume that every Muslim ever born is a terrorist.

There's a hell of a lot of hearsay, including some published in newspapers:
I would have expected nothing less from her, since I've been on the receiving end of Guerin's hatred toward the Jewish State myself. About six years ago, while wandering through the Old City of Jerusalem with a friend, I chanced upon Guerin preparing a broadcast. After quietly standing and watching Guerin and her crew for about one minute, we heard her cameraman ask her: "shall we start?" To which she replied, "not till these troublemakers leave." I then asked her in English "who are you calling troublemakers? We've only been here watching for a minute and haven't said a word." She hesitated, acting somewhat shocked that we heard the exchange, perhaps thinking us to be Israelis and not fluent English speakers, and then dismissively replied, "well you people are all the same." I turned and left, and filed a complaint with the BBC. The BBC replied with some standard e-mail saying that they couldn't verify my account and therefore could take no action.

No, but it is a pretty good name for people who exhibit a persistent anti Isreali bias in their 'news' coverage and have numerous accusations of being rather more than simply anti zionist (which is bad enough in an supposedly objective reporter) when off the record. Accusing people who describe virulently anti israeli reporters as antisemites as believing every Muslim ever born is a terrorist is a comparable slur to throwing around antisemite without merit.

Oh for fucks sake. OK, so she walked around a few blocks in the middle of town for 2 minutes rather than in a straight line. So what, the place IS bombed to shit. And as for her suposed support of Hezbollah: 'Here in the south of Lebanon no-one doubts that Hezbollah won this war' er, that is probably true. They are for the most part Hezbollah supporters in the south of Lebanon. "It’s with weapons like this that Hezbollah did battle against one of the most powerful armies in the world." yep, that is another true statement. And the BBC is slightly biassed towards the Arab when reporting on Israel, but, so what? Its just another point of view, and one that is not given much airing elsewhere. The BBC's bias does not make that point of view invalid.

No, but it does mean that we shouldn't have to pay for it. The use of unattributed local opinion as an excuse to express jounrnalistic opontion is a slight of hand used repeatedly by the BBC throughout the conflict - people say a hell of a lot of things. Hugh Edwards was particularly egregious with this. You would be pissed if the BBC sounded like Fox or the Washington post no?

Your point is taken, butI think the more general point is that the BBC, in recent years, has deteriorated in terms of the quality and objectivity of their reporting. Their move to a more commercial base only serves to reinforce speculation that they may be pursuing a larger agenda than objective news coverage. It is sad to see a news agency with such a reputation deteriorate like this.

Her reporting of events in the middle east has been laughably partial for many years and she is married to a Palestinian activist. But this is no surprise: she works for the BBC which was once the most trusted news agency but has lost that claim due to years of partiality; not just in the middle east but, for instance, by having as it's political editor (no longer) Andrew Marr whose hatred for all things non-Labour was actually amusing. Whatever his (or her) own opinions are should not be articulated as part of reporting: they should report the facts and no more: not the case with either of these 'journalists'.

The BBC is, intentionally, liberal, politically correct, and guilt ridden for being middle class and from oxford and cambridge. The UK is also traditionally pro Arab, and fairly well disposed to Islam. However, in its way, the Beeb has a place, between more objective reporting, Observer, Guardian, etc, and plebs end of the market, ITV, the Sun, News of the World etc.

The broadsheets are not objective.. I noticed you left the Telegraph out :) But they do have a clearly understood bias, you buy them partialy for the editorial line. This isn't the case with the BBC, where we are forced to pay for a news service that has a clear agenda that many do not support. That agenda has a perfectr right to be expressed, but not using my cash. Would you want to pay that arsehole Littlejohn's salary?

I lived in the North Yorkshire moors for about a month. The countyside was beautiful, if not a little windy and damp. Anyways, after two weeks, I was screaming for a "real" newspaper. I finally broke down and bought an international daily. I can't believe the proliferation of "rags" in the British news market! Imagine my sadness when I first suspected the BBC was headed in the "rag" direction. X|

You won't get that from a single source, you certainly don't get it from the BBC.

Defense is one of the few things the state should do, as it cannot be provided in any other way. Journalism can be aptly provided by private agencies.

Of course not. If a handfull of people came up to you and offered that opinion you too would state it as 'people around here feel...' Same for all her comments. She probably has an agenda, and a distorted point of view, but again, that does not mean that that point of view is invalid. There is still truth in it.

Cool, I expect Daniel Pipes will be employed bt the BBC middle east department soon enough then, he has an agenda and a valid point of view.

Huge exaggeration of war damage[^], along with emoting support of Hizbollah. The woman is well known as an antisemite among journalists (her nickname being orla goebbels) and is married to a Palestinian, why the hell does the BBC let her anywhere near the middle east? I assume because she supports their general editorial line, along with providing sufficiently emotive fact free reports in the same vein as Fergal Keane.

news in general doesn't have the quality as it should have. Most articles are tampered with to make it sell. Informing the public with quality information seems to be set lower and lower on the list of priorities of the news agencies. :sigh:

According to a recent BBC survey, 75% of brits still think they are impartial, which is pretty damn crazy. They do a good job of being non partisan when it comes to political coverage, but that isn't neutrality. I seriously object to having a tax funded version of the guardian pretending it is a neutral news source. At least I don't directly cough up for Reuters.

It shouldn't no, if she had integrity, but she has lots of previous form for this. One of her most egregious examples being reporting the arrset of a young boy with learning difficulties who was wearing a bomb belt as “Israel’s cynical manipulation of a Palestinian youngster for propaganda purposes”.
Here in the south of Lebanon no-one doubts that Hezbollah won this war... (they) told me that they’d had to live as refugees for a month but Hezbollah had made them proud... In a month of fighting, Israel couldn’t beat Hezbollah - probably not how its ally the United States expected things to turn out. For George Bush this is a bad chapter in the war on terror... To many here and in the Arab world Hezbollah are covered in glory
And how the hell is that objective journalism? It's the Hugh Edwards trick of putting "people say" before an opinion you agree with, that isn't news, that's poorly disguised editorial.
