MDSN Library Blues
-
I've just tried installing the Jan 2002 MSDN Library and it failed. It's demanding that I upgrade from IE5.5 to IE6 - this is not an option at work. So, not only does it not integrate with VS6, it's also dictating my IE version. Why does it want/need IE6? Does anyone know of a work around for IE5.5? Gavin

I think it uses some of the COM interfaces that are only supported in IE6. Either that or the MSDN codes contains the line #import "IE6.tlb" What's the reason for not being allowed to upgrade? IE6 is far more stable and secure than 5.5 Michael :-)

The correct question is "do I need to use the Jan 2002 version?" The answer is no. This new MSDN is a complete re-write of the old one, and lots of little things are broken. Stick with the October 2001 version, unless you're doing .NET development.

Bureaucracy - it hasn't been evaluated and approved by the 'software police' :( Gavin

We've only just renewed our subscription after a break of some months. So it's either January 2002 (first of new subscription) or April 2001 (last of old subscription) Gavin

The April 2001 version should be good enough; I didn't notice any doc changes that were of merit, expecpt for the IE6 DHTML and its com-related interfaces, and beta stuff for .NET that got finalized. Anything that is newish you can always get from msdn.microsoft.com Just my 2 cents
