I got home yesterday and found a small brown box waiting for me. It was my new GPS unit. :-D I started getting into geocaching[^] recently, and met up with one of the local groups this past weekend. I couldn't resist anymore so I bought a Magellan eXplorist 210[^] Looking forward to doing some exploring around town this weekend with some friends of mine. Any other geocachers here?

Yup. Long time geocacher. I've actually given it up lately because the local area is just so saturated with caches there isn't any place left to put more and we've done the existing ones. We have some completely rabid cachers here, I'd guess there are over 600 within a 15 minute drive of my house. I've been thinking of proposing that everyone just ditch them all in one super frenzy and start fresh. The real fun is in making new caches and being ever more complex and convoluted. Lot's of the local cachers have gone that route, secret code wheels, shortwave number station clues, bizarre back stories etc etc. The ones we did we tended to make as physically and mentally difficult as possible with multiple stages, near mountain climbing, mountain biking etc just to finish. But we always put good prizes in them for the first second and third finders. Watch out when caching in public and particularly urban places, it's easy to find that a cache was put in a place where there are some pretty nasty items lying around in the bushes where the caches tend to be. I.E. bring gloves and full coverage shoes if you go into that kind of area.
