Ghost Recon any good?
-
Just got my latest order in of goodies at work. Since games are not allowed at work, any games included in hardware purchases are removed. I now am the proud owner of two copies of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter that came with our new PhysX engines. Do I give them away, keep them, or throw them away? Browsing over at http://www.ghostrecon.com/us/[^] and it looks okay, graphics wise.

Heh. The original Ghost Recon was pretty good. I haven't played Advanced Warfighter.
And I get on my knees and pray. We don't get fooled again.

I tried one of the demos a few years back and it never clicked with me.

I don't know without installing them on say my home system. The packaging is only a disk, and with the PhysX engine from Asus, so it is a bit more than graphics card. If it were just the graphics card, there would be no problem, I have the same as work. I left them sitting on my desk at work since I picked them up at the end of the day. The PhysX card hasn't even been installed. I was trying to format the new hard-drives which are just monsters in size, so long formatting. I'll deal with the rest tomorrow. I guess I could toss one in my backpack and take it home and install it. If it runs, then I know it runs without the PhysX engine as I have not bought one for home yet.

If the consensus is toss it, that might be an option... however, I think you might want to find out if it will work without the PhysX engine. and to anyone even thinking... no, I will not sell them, period. They are trash from work, and I didn't pay for them, so that seems just too unethical for me.

The original was a very good game (and very nice to mod it). GRAW is apparently one of the best FPS around at the moment, not just because of it's support for PhysX but chiefly for it's storyline. I'd try it out first, you never know. If only my PC supported it and you were willing to ship it to the UK... :sigh: So my suggestion is keep one and "get rid" of the other. Also looking at other people's queries, I'm pretty sure it runs without the PhysX processor but because it supports it almost no one wants to do so after they've seen the clips and screenshots of the PhysX enabled effects.
As of how to accomplish this, have you ever tried Google?
Failing that try :badger::badger::badger: -

Do they actually work, or do you really need to program specifically for the engine?

I will find out how well over the next few weeks, but you do have to program for them. it is not automatic.

I got given a free copy of the 360 version of Advanced Warfighter, and it's a very impressive game, but incredibly difficult too (it goes for extreme realism - if you like to run around like a mad thing in a FPS then it's not for you - you spend most of the time skulking around and hiding, since most of the time one or two hits from an enemy sniper will kill you outright) The way all the command stuff works is good (you're in command of a small group of soldiers at certain parts of the game)

The PS2 version is good, but it's nothing special. It doesn't have anything new. It's pretty much the same as the previous Ghost Recon, but the environments and missions are different.
