Wiki in simple english?
-
Just looking at Wiki to see what looking for what dialects it might support was looking for br, au, nz, merican, southern drawl, brooklyn, etc but didn't find that... oh well I did see this one though simple http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Alright.... I guess it could be useful/helpful or would it be insulting? Copied off the fronpage What to do * Use easy words and shorter sentences so people who speak little English may easily read them. * Write good pages with care. The best encyclopedia pages have useful information. They are also carefully written. * Use the pages to learn and teach. These pages can help people learn English. You can also use them to make a Wikipedia to help other people, if you change the words to your own language. Thoughts, Flames, Humorous retorts?

Montreal city's portal (web) is also offering a "simplified" french ( and english I think ) pages; I know that it offended some people because they originally thought it was done to "dumb" down ordinary people by lowering the "complexity" of the language. Once those people were explained that it was intended for people with intellectual problems ( learning problems, ... ) they let go of the polemic and accepted the fact. I should be understood that using a simplified language is not meant for the general population, but for a real minority of people that cannot understand more complex grammar, syntax and vocabulary. I also believe that simplfied language are not used for teaching a new language; the objectives are different. jokingly, one can say that VB is the programming language equivalent to Simplified Engligh.

True it worked for me  Amazing ain't it the VB6 IDE will be supported under Vista and VS 2003 will not. One could argue that it is there to support Office 2007 which only uses Com (no .Net Assemblies) But one has to wonder if it was there to influence corporate acceptance considering how much VB development is still ongoing to this day.

Jokingly, one could also argue that C# is a simplicied C++. Jokingly, C++ is a simple form of assembly.

My thoughts on Wikipedia aside, Simple english is a very good idea, the concept has been around for a long time. In fact here are the 850 simple english words proposed originally: http://ogden.basic-english.org/words.html[^] VOA radio broadcast uses a 1500 basic word dictionary: http://www.voanews.com/specialenglish/about_special_english.cfm[^] It's very useful for those learning English as it makes the task much easier to cope with.
