For example on a 100,000 home in Dallas you would pay about 2900 a year in property tax. The homestead exemption reduced that to around 1900. Sales taxes vary from town to town, In Dallas we pay a little over 7%. But many items are exempt from sales taxes. I know. I used to have a small rental in Garland ( roughly a 75,000 property ) and between Dallas County, Parkland and GISD taxes it cost me 2,400 per year.

Of course you've gotten the hi-5 and the rail that'll take you from Plano to Ft. Worth. I agree, re: the 40% total, if in Texas. Indiana costs me a little more because of state (and for God's sake, county) income tax. My wife makes a decent income as well and we pay thru the nose.

ya, learned it from the Nigerians. I actually know someone who did something similar to this in the late 70s / early 80s. They relocated to Mass. from Texas for a 3 year assignment. They maintained their Texas existence and avoided Mass. state income taxes.
