The Microsoft Windows XP Operating Systems has a help file that will tell you exactly what to do to test USB for hibernation. Find that help file, and do exactly what it says. If you still can't fathom it out (a very simple thing to do) then ask again and I will hold your hand as you do it. It really is that simple to do. But did you read the Microsoft reference. It could be that your laptop has developed a fault that is solvable by taking to a laptop PC repairer. It might cost you a bit because of the potential need to replace expensive parts unless the laptop is under manufacturers warranty in which case have it repaired by the manufacturer according to the manufacturers instructions.

              1. Any system logs in the event file? 2) Did you install anything recently?
