CodeProject Spam

The email address I used to register for CodeProject is now getting spam. Did the CP user db get compromized, or do the spammers have some html scraper that looks through all the user profiles?

I recently changed the address I'm registered to CP with, but I started getting spam to the old address (which drops into a catch all spam bucket, so doesn't matter anyway!) Your email address gets provided to anyone you reply to on the forums (or at least, it used to) so the culprit could be a trojan running on the PC of some clueless person who asked programming questions in the lounge years ago :~

Did you put the email address in the Industry Contacts section? That was the only place where a html scraper could get your email address from. Mine certainly got taken from that page.

There have been many reports of this, but from what I can remember CP has not made a statement.
Brad Australian Have you tried Rebooting it?
This is the fourth report?

We do everything we can to protect your email address and are not aware of any compromise. I've had a number of reports of this lately, though, and a common theme is for members to use "codeproject@..." as their email address. Dictionary attacks on mail servers are common and I'm guessing the spammers have decided that "codeproject" (and variants) is a great username with which to try sending spam to.

Yup, mine is codeproject@mydomain.com. I'm not really blaming CodeProject; I know the spammer scum are really tenacious. I wish they were smart enough to only send spam to the real suckers though. Anyway, I only noticed one so far and I have SpamBayes, so it isn't a big problem. I've also seen much worse; for example I donated money to the Carter Center and now I get hundreds of spams for my cartercenter address. I think their database got hacked (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they didn't sell it). How is it that the US gummint spends hundreds of billions of tax dollars on unnecessary wars, but won't submit a single spammer to the torture they deserve? :wtf: Surely they don't fall under any provision of the Geneva Convention. Why doesn't Dick want to dunk those punks? :(
