Hey guys... Ive just been reading some PS3 news and it seems that the new Playstation 3 dashboard allows you to install a linux operating system on the box!! - Once installed you can either boot into Linux or the dashboard for loading games. Sony have called it the Open Platform According to the forums ive been reading it’s engineered in a way where Linux doesn’t run on the actual hardware, but runs in a virtual machine on top of the hardware, thus locking out pirated games and stuff. Also one of the linux disto's that is supported is ubuntu!! This could be a cool toy to play around with especially if Mono runs fine on it. Having said that, the price of the ps3 is still pretty steep!

Yep, $600 for a 60 GB Linux box is a bit much ;)

Guess Sony was tired of being left out of the hardware hack box market. (As the Xbox has had hacks to run various forms of *Nix since day 2 :) )

I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:

That's pretty impressive if you ask me.

Not surprising as both the PS2 and PS3 use a modified linux for their OS. http://playstation2-linux.com/[^] http://www.devnet.scea.com/[^]

Sony are trying to make it appear to be a general-purpose computer so they don't get billed for higher customs duties for importing entertainment devices, in some countries.
