a couple of months ago I was starting to look for a new car, I opted for a VW Passat - based on available budget and the discount I negotiated. However, due to work presures, I didn't manage to push the deal through... also, I bought my last car in a Decemeber and remembered the strength it gave me in negotioations (e.g. the saleman's end-of-year sales target and lack of customers). Managed today to get a written quote for a BMW 520d for nearly the same price as the Passat was quoted (like-for-like deal)! Left it untaken and asked for another discount (e.g. a generous trade-in) before sealing the deal! The ability to pull up a web-broker really helps! ;-)

Well so far the only car I bought was £80 ;P

Formula 1 - Short for "F1 Racing" - named after the standard "help" key in Windows, it's a sport where participants desperately search through software help files trying to find actual documentation. It's tedious and somewhat cruel, most matches ending in a draw as no participant is able to find anything helpful. - Shog9 Ed

Whole thing was included for £80 and it ran quite happily, ok not completely road-legal - but that's not the point of Land Rovers. Besides even if I spend a couple of thousand on it I'll have a vehicle that'll run for another 50+ years quite happily, when almost every other car will be rust (ok, mine may be to but at least it'll run cos that's how they were designed ). (BTW, live on a farm (out a fair bit in the country) and go shooting a lot so a Landy makes sense, besides they're so much fun, much more than a Beemer or Passat). It also has the advantage that if you hit something either the thing comes off worse, if yours does it doesn't matter, it just means you don't have to take so much care to keep it looking presentable (few things which define a Landy (old one): covered in mud, has dents & leaks oil. :->
