Ok, so I've had windows media player upgraded to version 11. ok, so far. I'm also been archiving my cd collection to hd, so I thought I would take a quick look at this new fangled online music store things to fill some holes in my collection. Seeing as I have windows media player, I took a quick look on msn music, found the album I wanted, signed up, credited my account, purchased the album, installed the various activex controls, downloaded the tracks and pressed play. Error: Windows Media Digital Rights component has encountered a problem. Try going to the online store to get the usage rights. (I paraphrase). Nice. I only want to listen to my music that I've just bought. Online faq says contact them for support. I have. They're getting back to me within 24 hours (how nice of them - how about they give me my money back until I can play the tunes - then I'll pay them within 24 hours). I'm not a happy bunny. (There should be a smiley for that - an angry rabbit), but in the meantime:  -- modified at 10:04 Thursday 21st December, 2006 [mod] They got back to me. Corrupt AllUsers\DRM folder apparently. Rename it and windows recreates it. Why they couldn't just publish that in the faq I don't know. Also, as a side note, the support was "Provided by Nokia Music" - I thought they did phones. [/mod]

Hint (or clue, if you prefer) - Online music is a scam. DRM is pointless. WMP is crap. There you have it - a nice tidy bundle that you can refer back to whenever you need it. :)

You're still using WMP 11?? HAHAHA what rock you been living under?? It is all about WMP12 now. Sure not even the Alpha is ready, but you can emulate it with ITunes (Also if you aren't running Vista then you need to uninstall your sound driver for the full experience)

Since you allready own the rights to this music, isn't it 'legal' to spend 20 minutes to download the same album from a torrent? :)

Good point. I should also be able to walk into my local music store and demand to borg the music onto my mp3 player. :) I think I know what they'll say, though.

This might be true, if it wasn't for the fact that you are also uploading the album to people who probably haven't paid for it. So you are still violating copyright, even if you own the album, and likely wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court...
